Here is the short story I have been sober for almost 2 months, I quit drinking becasue I started suffering from depersonaltion, derealization,Anxiety, and feelings of just wak-o. I still get most of these. Wellbutrin did nothing, paxil, zoloft, both just made me more confused and dizzy,I too a benzo it helped a little and screwed me for a week after. Oh about 2 years ago i did a good amount of XTC sorry forgot to mention that. Right now the mental confusion or dizzeness what ever you might want to call it is so bad I could not drive a car if I wanted to. I need help no one can give me any answers. I cant take any drugs it seems like they all make it worse. The ONLY thing that has helped is if I take a large dose of 5htp but that last only a coulple of hours and the crash is terrible. Please I need some help, ANYTHING!!!
Sincerely
running out of reasons to live

5-HTP is the immediate precursor to serotonin, and is 5-hyroxytryptophan. lose the carboxyl group from 5-HTP and you have serotonin, period.....all the best, chemist

5htp a herbal supplement that increases seratonin levels.

yes, as i noted above, 5-HTP is the precursor to serotonin. avoid if taking ssris, as can lead to serotonin syndrome. also avoid because this supplement is not regulated in dosage by the FDA. if you want to boost your serotonin level, go with a first-generation ssri.....best, chemist

From my reading I agree with you. My problem is they only make my confusion and anxiety worse so I cant stay on them long enough (3 days max) for them to help. Even ultra low doses effect me by the second day. So I am just well...stuck!!

dear you are just gonna have to try to wait out the bad period from the ssri's, how bad are your side effects? i have an increase in anxiety for the first week then it lessened and now all i am trying to get over is the increase in sleepiness...its hard i know, im on my second month but my anxiety is starting to get better and i attempt to do more things now, i hope i will get better than this. i started at 5mg of paxil and now am on 10mg i will stay here a while and might even go up to 15mg or 20 depending.
the only side effect i would say that isnt worth the wait is if you get any suicidal feelings, we have all heard that this is a posibility but luckly most of us have not had this.
i have most of the things you have stated along with panic disorder and depression i also dissociate.
i wish you the best of luck, but i really think you should at least try out the ssri's at least for a week or two.:)

I agree with the previous poster that you need to stick it out with an SSRI, but you could take a long-acting benzo to kill the anxiety. Maybe your drinking was an attempt at self-medication for anxiety? Was the MDMA use purely recreational, or did it temporarily help with depressive or social anxiety symptoms?
