Adderall + Zoloft

Posted by Willbc on April 20, 2004, at 7:59:28

I was diagnosed with ADD about five months ago. I've been taking 20mg of Adderall XR and I find it to help. Additionally, almost two months ago I was diagnosed with mild depression and I am currently taking 100mg of Zoloft. While the Zoloft seems to take the edge off of the Adderall (and seemingly helps alleviate my mild depression), it also makes me more lethargic than I would like---as if somewhat cancelling the effects of the Adderral. It's as if both meds are helping me, but it is as if the "right balance/dosage" may not be there (or perhaps there is another med I should be taking, in addition?) I feel as if going from 20mg of Adderral XR to 25mg may just be the answer, but I get the impression that my psychiatrist does not like to go much above 20mg because of an increase in side effects (including withdrawal-like symptoms.) Does anyone have any insights or suggestions, or both? p.s. this is my first time posting and I look forward to your responses---thank you

Hi, I was on Zoloft for 3 yrs , up to 100mg. It seemed to help with depression, but thats it. I recently switched over to lexapro to give it a try. Im only on 10mg, but im telling my doc to up it.
Anyway, i was recently diagnosed with add, and perscribed adderall 20mg 2x daily. It really helped me alot. I became more motivated, concentration, i could keep on one task at a time. But i noticed late night insomnia. A few nights, i didnt sleep. BUT i noticed one good thing. It didnt make me shaky or nervous like other stimulants. Iv been researching adderall and psycostimulants. They release dopamine from the nucleas accumbens, your pleasure center, unlike ephedrine or caffiene where there not too good for add , and they have alot more peripheral stimulation (anxiety).

But id say Zoloft is the best antidepressant. Im just giving it a rest, because it didnt help me much with social phobia. I wasnt depressed or angry though. I noticed lexapro , was told by a pdoc at a rehab, she told me lexapro was a bit stronger and less side effects. I noticed a bit of my sex drive has come back, but that may be from adderall.

Im no expert here, im posting another post on my current med combo if you wish to read it.
