I just starting taking Lamictal (up to 100 mg this week), and am experiencing horrible night sweats. I'm cold going to bed, but only wear a tank and pj pants. I will wake mid-night, have to change because I'm drenched and my head is soaked.
Is this a normal side effect (as it doesn't happen everynight) or just my body getting used to it in my system?

hi prodgirl, chemist here...cannot comment on night sweats with lamictal, but i have had the drenching sweats on more than one occasion. the most serious ones were when i was on luxox (300 mg qd) about 8 years ago, and when i quit xanax (for the first time), it was horrible. lamictal is going to be approved by the fda - if not already - as the third drug for treatment of bipolar disorder. unfortunately, the incidence of SJS is quite signficant if you do not titrate slowly. oops... it is approved for bp I....but back to the night sweats. dream abnormality has been fingered, as have hot flashes. the best info i can give involve hormone levels - and *not*lamictal - and my non-standard merck says that it is commonly attributable to an underlying infection or inflammatory disordres. hope this helps, chemist
