Lexapro-need info

Posted by Zena on April 7, 2004, at 22:51:51

I am starting my 9th. week on 10mg. of lex & I am still having anxiety from the lex after it's in my system a hour. The tiredness has pretty much subsided but should I still be having this anxiety? I take 1/2mg. of klonopin with lex-hate to see what I'd be without that. It has helped my depression & I feel like doing things again. The first 8 weeks were very difficult for me. I felt like throwing in the towel the 5th. week but you ladies gave me the encouragement I needed to go on. I've learned so much by reading your posts. Thanks to all of you.

I had anxiety (jitteriness) for more than 9 weeks after starting Lexapro. But it eventually went a way. It took a few months. During that time, I took either Valerian or Ashwagandha (both are herbs). The later worked better for me. I still take it sometimes. Only use a "standardized" version of either one.

Otherwise, just stay on the Klonopin for a couple more months.

Hi Zena,

Are you taking Lexapro for anxiety?

I took 10 mgs of Lexapro for about 6 weeks and was still having panic attacks. My psychiatrist suggested that I increase my dose to 15 mgs and it made a huge difference in my anxiety levels. I recently increased again to 20 mgs to try and combat the last bit of anxiety that I have.

In my experience, higher doses of Lexapro are needed to help combat anxiety.

If it IS the Lex that's causing the anxiety, maybe you should try a lower dose. Some people find that it only takes 5 mgs to help alleviate their depression. Or you could take 7.5 mgs. Please keep us posted on how you're doing. In the meantime, congratulations on sticking it out for so long. I know it's hard.

K.

Hi Kathryn,
I am taking lex for depression. I came down with severe anxiety 2 yrs. ago & was prescribed remeron with klonopin. That worked until Nov. & I was hit with depression. That's when I went on lex & still have the anxiety from it. Dr. told me it would take 3 months to reach it's max but I don't think I still should be having the anxiety. It has helped my depression but I don't feel I'm where I should be. I will keep you posted & thanks for the info.
Zena
