My pdoc just prescribed Keppra to me to try for anxiety. Any input on this med would be appreciated.

My DX is social anxiety disorder and Keppra (whether 500 mg all the way up to 3000 mg) did not help this. I took Keppra for about 2 months for anxiety. I would say that the only noticable effect it had was to enable me to quickly eliminate klonopin from my regimen.

What are you taking now? My pdoc said we would probably have to add something but to start with Keppra and add Paxil or Prozac or maybe try Luvox? If it helped you eliminate Klonopin did it help some of your anxiety, social phobia without benzos?

Keppra did help eliminate the generalized rebound anxiety of quitting klonopin, which is a good attribute of this compound. It did not eliminate my social phobia, however, and that was the reason it was prescribed to me. Studies bear out Keppra's anti-kindling effect. Currently, my regimen consists of klonopin (.5mg x 2) and adrafinil (300mg x 2). My next move is to add duloxetine (serotonergic and noradrenergic) if and when it becomes available.

I was prescribed keppra a few months ago as a possible mood stablizer and for anxiety. I'm sorry to say that it did nothing that I could measure. I hope you all have better luck with it...
