Does anyone out there take surmontil for sleep or as an anti depressant. My pdoc, has prescribed it for sleep. I am hoping it won't cause weight gain.

>It's a reasonably good choice, however, it's sleep is induced by being an antihistamine, which may or may not increase your appetite & cause weight gain. However, these types of drugs that cause sleep with Histamine blockade & also block 5-HT2A will improve sleep quality & your mental health. Other drugs in this class are Amitriptyline, Doxepin & a similar one is Remeron. Trimipramine is an interesting drug because it is the most potent 5-HT2A blocker of the TCA's, so you may actually only need a tiny dose.
The alternative is Benzos & drugs like Ambien. They won't make you gain weight, but they actually reduce sleep quality. Benzos should not be used for more than one or two weeks because they build tolerance rapidly when used for sleep.

Panda.
