Lexapro

Posted by chloe16 on March 14, 2004, at 22:36:05

I have been taking Lexapro for 10 days now for depression related to a long term relationship break up. I felt shaky and had anxiety the first 4 days but have felt fine ever since and am sleeping all night...great in fact! I have read about serious weight gain on this and am so concerned about it that i might quit taking it. I just cant handle weight gain, especially after a break up! I feel better taking it so I am really confused. Can anyone tell me what they have experienced? Thank you so much!

I have been on Lexapro for 5 months and have not experienced any weight gain. Give it a try, it has helped me a lot.

Good Luck!

I was on Paxil for 2 months and then Lexapro for 2 months...now I'm on Effexor and I've gained weight. I gained with Pax and Lex and that is why I'm on Effexor now but as I've read over and over time and again, many meds affect every BODY differently so you hang in there!! Just to let you know, I've gone from 165 to 181 in a matter of 5 months!!

I've been on Lex for about 4 months. I've had very minimal weight gain (about 5 lbs pr so). I even lost that after about month #3. Watch your carbs if you start craving too much though. Good luck!

Do you know why you gain weight anyway? Does it make you crave different foods? I eat really healthy to begin with so maybe if I just keep doing that I will be ok. Has Lexapro helped you? If so, what has it done? Do you feel the difference? Thanks for your input!

I have been on Lexapro for about 10 weeks now at 10mg. Previous to that I was on Zyprexa. In three weeks on Zyprexa I had gained exactly 10 pounds. Needless to say my Dr switched me to Lexapro. Since then I have lost the ten pounds I gained on Zyprexa and also lost about another 5-7 pounds. A lot of people report losing weight on Lexapro. I am also on 300mg of Wellbutrin.

Aside from the weight loss I have had a great turn around. My anxiety went down tremendously. I was able to be happy again. I wasn't hyper sensitive to everything my boyfriend said and I wasn't super self conscience all the time. I was just back to being me.

Give Lexapro a try it will take probably a good month to see how it will affect you. Plus this place is a GREAT place to come and ask questions. Everyone is super nice and helpful. Good luck.

Chloe:

I think you have to just try it and see. I read about other's weight gain concerns regarding Effexor before I started on it last week, but in my case it absolutely shut down my appetite. Others had also complained of insomnia with Effexor, while I haven't been able to keep my eyes open.

So, you don't know until you try it yourself. Hang in there. I'd take a few extra pounds over sadness any day of the week.
