Would Appreciate Xanax Info.

Posted by KathrynLex on March 9, 2004, at 17:21:45

Hi,

I'm trying to find some accurate information about Xanax. Does anyone know of a reliable website that has details about the med?

Some people have said that Xanax is a mild narcotic and others say it is just a tranquilizer. Which is correct? Thanks!

K.

It depends on what sort of details your looking for...you could go to xanax.com and click on full pescribing information, or you could go to biopsychiatry.com. Scroll down and click on alprazolam...they've done studies on how Xanax alters the activity of neurotransmitters in your brain. It's a benzodiazepine, which are central nervous system depressants. They're considered minor tranquilizers, as opposed to major tranquilizers such as Mellaril or Haldol. They're not narcotics to my knowledge, such as Codeine or Morphine.

correction, benzos are controlled substances so in a sense they are narcotics -- for what it's worth, you might try this website ..... it is very in depth as far as all psychopharmacueticals go it is a very in depth web in general site "xxx -- if you do a search with in this site will likely find info re: xanax (alprazolam) -- BTW - xanax' it's half life is not very long but that does not make it a very useful drug for many. FWIW just be sure you are aware of it's addictive properties- for some it is a 'lifesaver' there is much more I could say re: benzos etc but I don't want to bore you -if you have any ?'s feel free to ask! I don't claim to have all the answers but I may be able to help!

I just checked out dictionary.com and it said that narcotics are addictive drugs that reduce pain and alter mood and behavior, and usually induce sleep or stupor. I guess Xanax is a narcotic. I always thought of pain killers like opiates.

That site links to information that could be used to import into the US prescription medication without a prescription, so I'd rather not have it posted here, see:

Thanks,
