Wellbutrin... which form?

Posted by michael on March 1, 2004, at 21:14:15

Any opinions on the following?

Immediate release (three times daily)
sustained release (SR) (twice daily)
or the new once daily (XR)

My pdoc said he has better luck w/the regular, immediate release formulation. (he said that before the once daily formulation was avail)

Has anyone tried more than one...?

Thanks

I've tried the SR and the XL. I had a few side effects with the SR that lasted a short time. Other than the elevated blood pressure I didn't have any side effects with the XL.

I never knew about the immediate release.

Wish you the best of health.

Hi there,

Just wanted to throw in my experience. I've was on the XL version and couldn't handle it once I tirated up to 300 mg. I started to feel alot of irritability and anxiety, had to go back down to 150 mg immediately. Then I started to feel depression coming back on.

I just recently got a new pdoc and she put me on Wellbutrin SR (200 mg in a.m.) combined with 75 mg Zoloft. (crossing fingers) so far, so good for me. In her opinion the SR version is a bit easier for symptoms but who knows! Everyone is so very different when it comes to how your body will react to meds.

Best of luck! God Bless.

I'm sooooo happy to read your post. Of course I wouldn't want anyone to experience anxiety & depression, but it's always good to know that what we're experiencing is common and we are not alone.

At 300mg. of the XL my blood pressure went sky high, besides I've been walking around with brain fog/spaciness for months which has decreased since I'm lowered my dosage to 150mg.

Like yourself the depression was gone at 300mg., now at 150mg. of Wellbutrin XL I'm agitated, anxious, had a panic attack which I haven't had in almost a year, and the depression has returned.

I hope that your doctor is right about the SR being smoother, because I'm going to mention this to my doctor on Friday as an option before dropping Wellbutrin completely. This will be my last try with Wellbutrin before giving it the boot :)

Please keep me posted on your progress with the SR. I know that we're all different, but since your reaction has been the same as mine so far with the XL I'm curious to know how "well" (thinking positive) you are going to do with the SR.

Thanks for making my day!
