Ambien vs. Sonata

Posted by CareBear04 on February 19, 2004, at 20:41:09

Has anyone tried both of these? I've tried Ambien, but I think I'm switching to Sonata. Ambien has worked great for me as far as inducing sleep quickly, but it makes me forget things I do and has sometimes caused hallucinations. I've known many more people on Ambien than Sonata. Does Sonata work just as well? Is 10mg of Ambien = 10mg of Sonata? Thanks, CB

I've never tried Sonata, but have you tried lowering your dose of Ambien, and combining a lower dose (5mg-7.5mg) with a self-hypnosis tape and breathing exercises for 20 minutes? I'm going to try this myself. Overnighted Ambien, 10mg #30, from an online pharmacy that will deliver tomorrow AM. May buy Sonata in the future. Curious if Sonata will help me take a 2-4 hr nap once a week on top of regular sleep nightly at 8 hours, to help reduce my sleep debt....

I've never tried Ambien but have Sonata. worked great the first couple of weeks, sometimes can give you Really wierd colorful dreams but ok. however, it seemed that i must have created some tolerance to it-it was taking longer and longer for me to get to sleep. But i did get good sleep when taking it. I stopped using it just cuz the other meds i was taking was making me super drowsy and didn't need it so much anymore.

My sister takes half of an Ambien. I have taken Sonata and LOVED it. The half life is very short so it is especially good for people who wake up at 2 or 3 or 4 am and cant get back to sleeep. There is no groggy hangover type feeling like with Ambien or benadryl.I think Sonata is more expensive than Ambien though.
