Lexapro Question

Posted by juco on February 18, 2004, at 20:14:41

I have been taking Lexapro for anxiety for about 2 weeks now. I have really enjoyed the medicine as it has really helped. I do have one problem however, it keeps dialating my eyes when I take it. I have tried Zoloft, and Paxil with no help while Lexapro seems to be giving me this weird side effect.
I guess what Im wondering is has anybody ever been through this with Lexapro and have the sideaffects subside or am I going to have to set off on another mission to find another med?
Thanks

Hmmm. I've not experienced that one. I've been using Lexapro for about 10 weeks now, and have recently moved up to 20mg/day.

Do other people _notice_ your eyes, or do you just notice it when you look in the mirrow? Has anyone said anything to you about this?

I've got a teething 10 mo. old baby and am up frequently during the night, so my eyes always look awful from sleep interruptions, so my experience might not be comparable to yours. :)

Hang in there, Lexapro will smooth out over the coming weeks. Give it some more time if you can!

Yea other people have noticed. My girlfriend seems to think it worse at sometimes than others. I think I will continue to try since I have been having great results otherwise.

My daughter is on week 12 of Lexapro and I've noticed her pupils are dialated from time to time. She hasn't mentioned it to me, but I can certainly tell that they're dialated. I'm not sure what causes this.

I have not heard of that side effect, but anything is possible. My feeling is that the dilation is harmless and that you should not worry about it. But just to make sure, give your doc a call and ask him/her.

One more thing I forgot in my response above. I think that in general, if someone's pupils are UNEVENLY dilated, the doctor should be notified.

My doctor wants to try and place me on Paxil to see if I can get the benifits of Lex without the side effect. I was wondering on a side note about XANAX XR, Has anybody ever tried this?
I used to take alphrazolam .25mg as a quick fix but it would always wear off. Is Xanax XR functionally the same? How does it compare to Lexapro?

Yes the lex was just for anxiety. I have a very high stress lifestyle but I am not depressed. I had headaches, Flushing and Muslce Aches. The Lex seemed to cure all that excepet for this one slighlty embarrasing side effect.
