topomax and lethargy

Posted by dazed on February 17, 2004, at 12:49:55

Seems like I've read here the some have problems with being tired all the time with topomax. Is this a very common side effect? I want to take it for migraine prevention, since my current prevention doesn't work. I still get 1-2 migraines per week, and always have a regular headache most every other day.

I've only been on it nearly four weeks. Now 50mg in morning and 50mg in evening and yes it makes me tired. And tingly fingers (not all the time). It also gets me out of breath easy when I'm walking (But I haven't heard of this side effect). (And I feel anxious, but Ihaven't heard of this side effect either)
You did ask!
I suggest increasing 25mg per week.

This side effect will most likely go away. It did with me anyway, and I was VERY tired the first month I began taking Topamax. With each titrate up, I would again experience sleepiness and fatigue, but would adjust within a day or two, and now that I have settled on my regular dosage, I don't experience any tiredness at all.

Can you tell us what your regular dose is and if you also got increased anxiety when increasing your dose and did this also settle down?
I Can't Handle it - The anxiety, that's what I'm supposed to be taking it forrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Uh, thanks.

I think you're asking me, not Dazed...?

My regular dose is 200mg, 100 in am, 100 at night.

I didn't have too much anxiety with Topamax..I would classify it more as "hypomanic" type feelings or jumpiness...it was very uncomfortable and yes, it eventually went away! At first I had extreme tiredness, which also went away.

Hang in there. Topa side effects are really nasty, and they increase with each titrate up, but they also fade the longer you stay at each dose and eventually go away.

Good luck!

I couldn't do it Sooshi.
Maybe it was hypomania, I don't know but is was ssooooooooo unbearable. I couldn't stand for a long as I'd feel too weak, but then I couldn't sit(still) and concentrate for too long either. I felt like I was gripping onto sanity with my fingernails, whilst looking just beautifully normal - so weird! I'd shake my head occasionally thinking I would just comeout of s weird dream or something. I've never been on drugs. This must be what it's like. Like, 'Beam me up out of here Scotty"!

Hope you are doing well?

Going to my pdoc tomorrow to let here know how I've been tortured for amonth and that I now know about the Effexor hell I'll have to endure oneday when I go off it.

Carolan.
