hey, i went off Lex for a month cause i thought i wasnt gonna have insurance, but now i do. stupid stupid move....ahhh. anyway im back on Lexapro and its been three weeks. I dont feel much better than before. The first time i was on it it worked the first week and i started to feel better by the second and third week. Has this happened to anyone before? I have heard that if you return to a med sometimes it wont work as well. Is that true? I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and I think i need Welbutrin or something for my sexual SE's on Lexapro, but someone told me they got more anxiety on Welbutrin. please respond. thanks.

I have also heard of some people returning to a med and needing to raise the dose the 2nd time.
I can think of 3 options:1) raise the dose of Lexapro by 10 mg (even if you never went off of it the first time, you still might have eventually needed a dose increase)
2) keep the dose the same and add Wellbutrin3) if neither of the above work after a couple of weeks, do both
I took 20 mg of Lexapro for a year, then 30 mg for a month, then added Wellbutrin which allowed me to decreased the Lexapro back to 20 mg.
I now take 50 mg Wellbutrin SR twice a day (I cut the 100 mg pill in half). If I take the whole thing at once, I get too jittery. But lots of people can tolerate higher doses of Wellbutrin.
The Wellbutrin has been helping with the sexual side effects of Lexapro.

Hi Karalyn,
I would just like to add something to Bill's great advice, if you try all of his options and still aren't having results you might consider taking a different med.
I had wonderful results with Prozac. I went off of it for a while and when I took it again it didn't work nearly as well. You might look in to Prozac as an alternative to Lexapro since they are very similar meds.
