Help!
I have general anxiety, depression and minor insomnia. I also have a history of narcotic addiction.
SSRI's work well for me but they kill my sex drive and caused some apathy. I tried with success:
CEXLEXA, PAXIL and PROZAC
I did not tolerate:
EFFEXOR, ZOLOFT, REMERON (too sedating) and WELLBUTRIN (Hypomania and anxiety producing), SEROQUEL, STRATTERA, RITALIN, DEXEDRINE (the last two were too addictive and headache producing and caused severe mood fluctuation)
For sleep I have tried with success:
AMBIEN, SONATA, CLONAZEPAM, ATIVAN and XANAX but do not want to rely on anything addictive and hate the morning grogginess.
I am currently taking NEURONTIN at night which helps with sleep and as needed during the day and that helps too, but I am still very edgy and irritable later in the day. I also take 75Mg's of LAMICTAL.
My Psychiatrist wants me to try ABILIFY...I am not so sure after reading about how it can make people feel very speedy.
PLEASE if someone has had similar drug experiences do let me know what works for you.

I recommend taking less Nurontin and more Lamictal. Maybe ad some Klonipin.
I am in recovery and I have had no problems with Klonipin despite what people think about it. It helps with anxiety and sleep. Maybe take it with supervision at first if you're concerned about abusing it. I don't take it daily and I've felt no urge to increase the dose. I don't have cravings for it. It doesn't buzz me. I hate that in any med. But when the pain of my depression spikes Klonipin is a good thing.

I agree that a low dose of Zyprexa might help you. Abilify is very activating and caused me a lot of anxiety.
I dont' take Zyprexa anymore, but I sometimes take 2.5 if I can't sleep.
good luck!

Klonipin hangs me over in the AM and Neurontin does not. I think I just need something to cure the afternoon spike in depressive anxiety and Zyprexa might be it and/or raising the Lamictal.
I, too do not get a buzz off of klonipin and am not worried about this particular drug in regards to "AA sobriety" if prescribed. Valium, or Xanax on the other hand can be way to much fun and thus not an option for me!
Thanks all for the reccomendations so far. Keep em coming.

Hi Contemplative,
I take Lexapro for anxiety. (I had wonderful success with Prozac a few years ago.) You might want to give it a try.
Note: The odd thing about Lexapro is that it can cause anxiety for the first few weeks that you take it. Ask your pdoc to prescribe Lorazepam or Xanax to take on an as needed basis. (Lorazepam can also help you sleep.)

Do not ask for Xanax PRN if you are in recovery but I think you know that.
This is the end of the thread.
