Seriously though, why does Paxil make people gain so much weight? And then you can't lose it even with diet and exercise. Does it really slow down the metabolism? I am curious.

If your body is taking in more calories of any type (doesn't matter) than it can burn, it stores them as fat. Fat cells NEVER go away; you can only make them smaller. That may be the effect you're feeling. Once we put on weight, it's far harder to take it off, mega dittos when you reach your forties (like me) and your metabolism is significantly reduced.
Not meaning to be discouraging. It just takes more work, that's all.

I don't know about Paxil, but I gained 30 pounds on Depakote and started having "female" problems, too. Granted, I was 42-43 at the time, but looking back on it now, I wonder if I was having a "metabolic syndrome" kind of thing.
