Posted by shelye77 on February 11, 2004, at 4:55:59

i started taking effexor in november when a shrink gave it to me to deal with the death of my best friend in the months i took it i lost my fiance my kids and i totalled two cars the first accident i was sure i saw all the cars pass i turned into the passin lane in front of a oncoming vehicle that was less then 100 feet away from me i was always having these outburst towards my kids and fiance for no apparent reason just missing a dose and the other accident i am not real sure of the events i was struck from behind i woke up in the ER with the dr telling me that i had PCP in my system never takin the drug or even knowin what it was i surfed the net and found with other drugs effexor can give you a false positive for PCP anyway i am now facing DUI charges for a controlled substance that i was taken to cure my depression well if and when i took it it helped i felt like my head was in the clouds and i had a three hour to a day and a half sleeping schedule anyway after the charges and the accidents i decided to quit taking the effexor and i am goin through HELL!!! im more agitated and irratated tired and never sleepin i never see my kids cuz of violent rage (no...i'd never lay a hand on my kids) i have no vehicle and even if i wanted i cant drive cuz i lost my license for a year
in my opinion anything that can take your quality of living isnt worth it but i never imagined what i would go through gettin off it.

hi shelye (sp?)

i am also having effexor withdrawal symptoms off and on. i'm sorry you had such a bad experience with it, that sucks!! could you maybe get out of the DUI charges by showing a letter from your doctor explaining you were taking effexor, NOT PCP, accompanied by the info you found on the net about effexor giving a false positive for PCP? that's scary.

if you taper off very gradually, i've heard the withdrawal effects are not so bad. I just dropped down from 300mg/day to 150mg/day, but I'm going to taper off a lot more gradually from here on out.

i posted below that i'm starting a blog/journal about my experiences while "withdrawing," i plan to post links and any info i find out about how to make it easier--if you want to go check it out so far, it's at http://brainzaps.tblog.com.

you know, i also had "violent rage" attacks while on effexor--but i never chalked it up to the drug itself. i thought it was because of a combo of PMS and my thyroid condition. but wow, if it was from effexor i'm really glad i'm getting off it.

thank you for sharing your story here. everytime i log on this board i learn something new and even worse about effexor. the other day is was a woman who wrote her baby was born dehydrated and withdrawing from the effexor her doctor told her was okay to take while she was pregnant. the baby almost died, but god only knows what it's future is.

i have also read that effexor is chemically similar to pcp - but never heard it could give you a false positive. you should be able to get out of this! try this search engine
http://www.vivisimo.com

and cupcake thank you for starting the blog. although i am just on the other side of effexor i remain very concerned about this drug and the damage it is doing.

thank you!
