I took this stuff for severe anxiety in the mid 80s and just happened to notice on one website that it has gotten a "black box" warning for possibly inducing a fatal cardiac condition. So, if anyone out there is taking Mellaril, beware!!

All of the old neuroleptics can...and all have effects on cardica faction, new and old antipsychotics...
Cardiac arrest from neuroleptics is extremely rare, as is NMS.

my pdoc says that they're not allowed to prescribe mellaril anymore, anyway. if that's the case, then you don't need to worry.

My mom has been on Mellaril for over 20 years. i am worried that she could have a heart attack any day. She smokes a pack of cigarettes a day as well. She has severe insomnia and Mellaril seems to be the only thing that works for her :(
