Hey i was wonderign what the real scoop on benzo's are. Some docs are benzophobic and others would prescribeit right away for high anxiety as a gold standard. Are the benzos in general as bad as some say? Does the tolerance really keep goign up forvere or does it stabilize after a while like some people say and you can take almost the same amount for long periods of time? If tolerance stays stable after a while why not take them for longer periods of time if your bloodtests are normal and they are the only thing that work? is there a benzo that develops tolerance slower then other?
thankx

In my experience, the only benzodiazepines that cause development of tolerance when taken regularly are the short-acting potent ones -- Xanax, Ativan and Halcion in particular. It's quite rare that I hear of someone becoming tolerant to Klonopin.

Hi, Ive been taking xanax for a few years and I have had to increase my dosage, I now take 2 mg xr everyday. And when I try to skip a day, I have bad withdrawls. Im scard about what is going to happen when my pdoc tries to get me off...Just something to think about.
Good Luck,
Ann

Hi, my experience must be different than everyone else's. Klonopin used to knock me out and make me soooo mellow, but now I don't feel it doing anything at the same dose. Ativan, on the other hand, is just as effective and calming as it was when i started it a year ago. Xanax is sort of in between, where it works, but not as well as it did initially.

I was on zanax , remeron and luvox!. Whew then the nut gave me ritalin! My dad said it looked like a cartoon watching me do yard work. Any way I came off the stuff and got on lex and klonopin. It took 9 months to come off zanaz but I did it. Then a year later I went on Klonpin and it REALLY helped at work. I dunno, I sort of feel like I use benzos as a cushion becuse I was drilled in AA. But on the other hand I have severe GAD where I couldn't function well so maybe I just need it?
