Paxil CR w/alprazolam PRN - scared new user

Posted by lisalisalisa on January 20, 2004, at 13:25:51

I've just been prescribed 12.5 mg Paxil CR (for depression) with 0.25 mg alprazolam PRN (for anxiety). I'm scared and hoping someone here can tell me what I'm in for, both primary effects- and side effects-wise. My anxiety is at its worst in the mornings. Should I give the Paxil a chance to kick in before going to the alprazolam? Will the alprazolam make me dopey? Has anyone ever taken Paxil without losing all libido?

Any insight/suggestions/further reading appreciated.

I always get really scared before trying a new med. So you're not alone. Just wanted to tell you that I took Paxil and had absolutely no problem with libido. I hope you have a good experience with it. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the reply. I've been nauseous all day from last night's (first) dose of Paxil and I've been reading horror stories about weight gain. Not sure if I should ride this out and see how it works for me, or if I should cut my losses now & ask my doctor for something else. Thoughts, anyone??

You can do a simple search on Paxil and it is rated the worst SSRI for sexual dysfunction. I just stopped Paxil, which was the best SSRI I've ever taken, because it wasn't just a little loss of libido, you could line the Victories Secret models in front of me nude and not get a reaction, it was bad, and I am a very sexual person. It's not just lack of interest but not even able to perform, and if you do get the urge to perform, one could probably reach Mars before orgasm.
