Well folks it's been a week and a half on Nardil. I'm going back and forth between 45 and 60 mg per day.
A few comments.
1. Man, this drug seems strongly serotonergic, almost SSRI-ish. I find myself with that inner tense feeling, numbness below the waistline, and blase feeling I got on the SSRI's. I hope this is just a startup effect.
2. I am verrrry sedated. I can sleep on a dime now, seriously! This is not necessarily bad, I don't even really need Ambien anymore. Crazy!
3. I feel a bit of ataxia, clumsiness, and forgetful. I guess all of these fall under the broad category of cognitive dysfunction that I hear is common during startup.
Do the dumb-dumb effects (i.e. cognitive dysfunction) go away? I hear this is mainly a startup effect. What about the sedation? I won't hold out too much hope for the sexual probs.
I'm definintely giving this baby more time. I think I need a bit of reassurance though! lol.
Thanks for any comments, etc.
Matt

Hi Matt.

I think you would be better off staying at 60mg.
Most of the things you describe are probably startup side effects. Nardil sedated me somewhat during the first week or so. Thereafter, it produced insomnia.
As far as all things genital, quite a few people recover their ability to achieve orgasm after a few months.
I wish you luck.

Matt,
I was clumsy and a bit ataxic at first, too. It went away by, I think, the third or fourth week. Sexual side effects took longer, but are better now too. I am about to go from 45mg to 60mg. Have you noticed any increase in SE's at 60? I'll keep you posted how it is for me once I start (waiting on a mail order).

Hey GG,
Thanks for your response.

Thank goodness, there's hope. I keep bumping into things, it's a little embarassing. But then again, it seems to make me care less about what people think, lol (possibly why it works for SP?).

Whew!

Yeah, quite a bit, actually. It could be coincidence, but when I ramped up to 60 mg, I really started feeling goofy (ataxia, sleepiness, mild orthostatic hypotension, SSRI-ishness, etc.). Before that, it was really close to taking a sugar pill - almost no side effects. That's actually why I bumped back down to 45 mg. I'm going to try to keep at 60 mg though, and just tough it out.
Let's keep each other informed on how it's going, okay?
Best,
Matt

Hey Scott,
Thanks again for responding.
>I think you would be better off staying at 60mg.
I think you're probably right, just stick with 60 mg. I'm a big advocate of a fast titration - even with SE's. There's no sense in spending too much time with something that's not working (not to say that Nardil won't). I like to find out quickly if something is going to work.
> Most of the things you describe are probably startup side effects. Nardil sedated me somewhat during the first week or so. Thereafter, it produced insomnia.Hmm, bummer. Too bad I can't choose - I'd stick with the sleepiness, lol.

What a relief. I always had sexual *trouble* with SSRI's, but never complete anorgasmia. Delayed ejaculation would better describe it. Perhaps VERY delayed sometimes, lol.
