going thru withdrawls from getting off Effexor.

Posted by flyingdreams on January 16, 2004, at 14:13:21

Hi Everyone! I'm new here. I'm getting off Effexor and these are my symptoms - diahrea, shaking or sweating (one or the other all the time), sleeping all day & night or up for over 24 hours, headache, feel like I have a hangover, feel cross eyed, my eyes are puffy and hard to keep open, I'm angry, scared, anxious, nausea and even throwing up. Please tell me how LONG does this last???? I've tried this once before and chickened out, it was so bad. I don't want to give up getting off this med this time. I've been off it for 3 days, this being the 3rd.

I have never been addicted to anything and this is rediculous! I feel like a drug addict, all the while trying to get rid of the depression with this "safe pill" Safe my butt, if I'm going thru such extreme withdrawls how can this be safe!?!

Hi there

I'm with you ! I'm trying to get off that stuff too. Its been f*$%*g hard. I had extreme nausea all day, shaking, feeling like a wave was rippling through my body every minute, couldnt sit still at all, wierd body spasms.....I too have never in my whole life experienced anything like this.
It makes me so mad that they call these things non-addcitive. Well, if this isnt an addiction then why do we feel so aweful when we stop taking it ?! Such a load of crap...I hate it !

Well, you're not alone.... many are suffering.
I hope I'll be strong enough to not take a pill 2 days from now. (you can read a previous thread in same session where I ranted about that)

Lets hold hands and quit Effexor together .

Thanks for your support and here's my hand : )

Yeh, I think we should all get together and do a writing campaign to 20/20, Dateline, etc. I'm sure they would love to do a story on the real "happy pill" and would be shocked to hear of these severe withdrawls. Even my pharmacy was suprised to hear of my withdrawl symptoms, said she had never heard of them being so severe, ha! Right, after all she makes a living off these drugs, hush, hush now, don't admit the real story. I told her there are tons of people online with the same story as myself. Don't give me a bunch of bull!

Safe Hugs

Flying: As you will see all over this board, tapering is a much better way to quit SSRIs than cold turkey. Be ready to put a couple of months into a gradual withdrawal. If you're going to go cold turkey, you could be in for a couple of weeks of hell, or even longer.
