20MG is the highest I've heard being prescribed, and only in exceptional cases. The manufacturer's studies have shown 10MG to be effective for people the drug can help.
I'd give Lexapro a good three or four months at 10MG before considering upping the dosage. Lexapro's subtle side effects, in my opinion, tend to disguise the potency of this drug. I think it's in the same league as Paxil: in other words, at the top of the heap.

I take 30 mg. But I have read posts from people who take 40 mg.
It's not possible to say what the highest dose is that people will take because it has only been on the market for just over a year. Many people need to increase their dose of any of the antidepressants over time.
In the clinical trials, 20 mg was the highest used but these trials were very short term. Some of the patients who did good on 20 mg during the trial period might currently be taking 30 or 40 mg.

I am currently @20mg, but pdoc told me I could go higher if needed (so far doing good at 20). He also said he had patients taking 30 and 40mg. I have not heard of higher doses, but I guess it could be possible???~~~8|8

I am currently taking 100 mg of Lexapro daily and have been at this level for approximately the last 6 months. I started at 20 mg and titrated up to 100 mg over several months. I suffer from OCD and have always required large dosages of medication in order to feel an effect. My doctor also has a couple of other patients on 100 mg and several others on 60 and 80 mg. It works fairly well for me and has relatively no side effects (occasional drowsiness). As my doctor says, everyone's tolerance is different so the dosages between patients can vary greatly. Boy, it has been a long time since I have posted on this board!

100 MG!! My goodness. Does your doc work with the manufacturer? It would be helpfull to see how it goes for you at such a high dose. You are definately the exception and how you do may be helpful for the company to know. Just a thought.Good luck with everything.

LOL! No, my Pdoc doesn't work with the pharm company that makes Lexapro, but he has mentioned that he would like them to make a pill over 20 mg in order to make it less expensive and more convenient for individuals taking the larger doses. From his research, experience, and interaction with his colleagues, he believes that the company over estimated the potency of the drug. However, as is evident on this board, some people only need 5 mg or even less. It just goes to show you that everyone is so different, especially when it comes to these drugs. I am not a large person by any means (6 foot tall and 180 lbs), but I guess I just have a high tolerance. Maybe I am just too hyper!!! I started Lexapro around a year ago and have been on the 100 mg dosage for probably over 6 months now. I was previously on 100 mg of Celexa for over a year and it worked fairly well but I got a little too much daytime drowsiness for my taste. The Lexapro is a lot better in that respect and has about the same efficiency for me as the Celexa did. I also take 40 mg daily of Adderall XR which works great for my ADD. While the Adderall helps me think clearly and focus on my daily tasks, the Lexapro seems to work more in the background and helps me stay relaxed. Don't get me wrong, I still have my bad days as I am working an intense full time job (which I should be focusing on right now....but hey, it is Friday!), going to graduate school at night for my masters degree, renovating a house I just bought, maintaining an exercise schedule, etc.... When I get stressed, my OCD kicks into overdrive and makes everything very difficult. Sometimes I wish the Lexapro worked a little better on those days, but hey, these drugs are not cure alls. I am just happy that they help me live my life in a somewhat normal fashion! Anyway, I will keep you posted on how I continue on my current dosage. Have a great weekend!

I am currently at 20mg, have been taking Lex since Feb. Lately I've started to feel like I need an increase again. I went from 10mg to 20mg in Sept. So it's been about 4 months. Did you increase 10mg at a time? How long did the increase work? I mean how long did you go between each increase? was it about the same period each time or did the time between get shorter and shorter?
I have never taken any meds before LEX, and overall I have been pleased with the results, I just worry about the dreaded *poop-out*!
Any comments you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.~~~8|8
