Hi everyone. I just started prozac today at 20 mg, and 1mg Ativan twice a day as needed. I shall only take that when I need it for sure, unless i cant sleep and take it then too.
I am curious as to other peoples experiances with prozac, good and bad, would like to get as much info i can on what to expect with side effects and so forth. I understand everyone is differant. But I know a group as a whole can come up with a lot of info..Thanks for the support friends...David

Hey,
The mighty prozac.. I have a partial response to it.. it helped with my depression (I suffer from chronic major depression).. however, it interfered with my sleep and left me quite anxious.. I understand prozac is the most 'aggravating' of all ssris.. having said that, i also understand that it has great, widespread efficacy for many different mental illnesses... its definately a good one to try
good luck

I had a bad reaction to Prozac. It totally clouded my thoughts and made me anxious. I switched to Zoloft which turned out to be the perfect swop. This is just what happened to me though.

You'll probobly hear about side effects ect from other people here. I want mention what I thought was a strange side effect: I was hell bent on finding someone to fall in love with. I must of gone on 25 dates(personals)in a 3 month period. If I really like someone I would buy them gift's and get a little to clingy and this would scare them off. Thank god that eventually went away, now married, anyone else w/ similar experience?

Hey David - I was diagnosed with depression when my oldest was about 1yo (he'll be 15 this month) after having SEVERE post partum depression after 2 pregnancies, I was put on Prozac after #3 8 years ago. No crying, no nothing! I took it for approximately 5 years (minus 9 months while I was pregant with #4). I felt really good for about 2 years and it seemed to dwindle after that. Eventually my doc changed me to Effexor, but after 3 years it is definitely time for a change and I see my doc Wednesday.
I tried many, many meds before Prozac and it was the best responder to that point. I hope it works for you, but if not, there are so many other options. Don't give up! - Vicki

I had a very positive experience with Prozac. I took it for depression. The doc started me at 10 mg and increased it to 20 mg after a couple of weeks. I experienced very few side effects other than insomnia. After taking Prozac I actually wanted to get out of bed again and my life became much more managable. I took it for about a year and stopped taking it because I was doing so well. When I tried to get back on it, it was much less effective. Best of luck on Prozac, it did wonders for me!

Hi,
Side effects I got from Prozac: dizziness, loss of appetite, weight loss, sometimes I would get jittery(in the beginning), hair thinning(not sure if from Prozac or stress, but started when i started the drug)
Ativan- still felt groggy the next day.
I am really sensitive to meds so chances are you won't get most of these.
good luck,
Sara
