I'm writing on behalf of my wife. She has been suffering from anxiety and depression for 6 or more years and has tried nearly every drug in the book. She is in a crisis stage now after taking Klonopin (1.5 mg per day) and Topomax (40 mg per day) in combination for about the last 2 months. Her depression is still high and she is wondering if she can introduce Paxil (12.5mg) into this mix for some releif. She is very sensitive to medications, even at the very low doses. She has been taking the Klonopin for at least 5 years and has struggled to find an appropriate combination with it. The doctors are always trying to drug her up at such a level that makes her a vegetable. She has had a recent physical and MRI with normal results. All feedback is appreciated!

Hi:
Both med., Topamax and Klonopin is more likely for people who has Bipolar Disorder and takes both for as 'add-up med.,' like for 'good-nite sleep and other Bipolar symptoms/manic. However, most of psycho-meds. have 'universal' usage.
As having depression along with Anxiety, your wife definitely needs some sort of AD med. along with a med. for 'anxiety.' In my knowledge, Paxil is not easy to take, especially if she has sensitivity to psycho.-med. Rather, other form of med. might be beneficial, however with med. sensitivity, there must be not easy to find a good med. combo. Then, in my suggestion, try to look for a psychiatrist who has a good track-record on depression field. Sometime, Anxiety is a part of 'depression,' rather than two separate mental illnesses.
Either way, I feel strongly that you and your wife needs at least 'second opinion' from a competent and experienced pdoc. Preferably, a pschy-pharmacologist whom you could find at Medical University. Even ask a local/good hospital for referral.

I used to take 1 mg of Klonopin with 10-20 mg of Paxil and I functioned pretty well for a while, never had side effects and rarely had any panic that wasn't managable. Maybe she is different, but I would suggest asking for a second opinion, and from a real psychiatrist/doctor.
