I have been very interested in Provigil as I have heard it helps a lot with cognitive abilities and focus. Surprisingly, my Psychiatrist has never used it before, even though he has been practicing for 40 years.
So I found a study conducted by the US military. A randomized, double-blind, placebo study in which 50 volunteers were kept awake for 54 continuous hours was conducted. After 40 hours, the subjects recieved either a placebo, 600 miligrams of caffeine (about 6 cups of coffee) or one of three doses of Provigil (100 milligrams, 200 milligrams or 400 milligrams). Then they were subjected to a battery of tests to assess cognitive function and side effects. What was found, was that the highest dose of modafinil (aka provigil) 400 milligrams, cut through fatigue and estored cognitive performance to normal levels, but so did caffeine.
What was concluded? Basically Provigil and caffeine did the exact same thing, with no real difference in side effects. So it seems to me, instead of spending a lot of money on Provigil, and taking another pill, most people could just go buy a tall cup of coffee and get the same cognitive improvement effects.
Just thought this was interesting, and it may save some people on here some money!

I think you make a reasonable point.
That said I think people are going to explain how they found Provigil different from caffein.But for me Provigil felt very similar to coffee.
At a low dose 100-200 mg no effect, at a higher dose just anxiety. This is almost the same as the way I react to coffee.
Theres more evidence for the similarity as well. I remeber reading an article were they compared how provigil and amphetamine behaved in the brain. Provigil's binding sites were very different to amphetamine, and significantly similar to caffein.
There are some obvies differnces though, Provigil lasts longer, and doesn't make you pee all the time the way caffein does!
