Hi, I have been taking Lexapro (different dosages of course) for about 3 to 4 months. I started out on 10mg and then went up to 20mg and was stuck on that for a while. I was taking it with Ritalin because I have ADHD but I decided to stop taking the Ritalin because it was making my anxiety really bad. The main reason I am taking the Lexapro is because I have an anxiety problem and I am not allowed to take a real anti-anxiety medication (so my therapist says) because I have a drug problem and she thinks I will get hooked on the anti-anxiety meds real quick. Which is understandable. I just recently (2 weeks ago) started taking 30mg of Lexapro and it really made my anxiety better, but I have been feeling really really fatigued lately. I seem to have a hard time waking up in the morning for work and I seem to be dragging all day. Any advice on this. I was thinking about increasing my dosage to 40mg, because my doctor said that 40mg is as high as it goes, but I dont want to me tired all the time. Any advice would be great. Thanks

I am surprised to hear your doc thinks putting you on anti-anxiety meds (like benzodiazepines such as Klonopin) is a bad idea. Yeah, they may be addictive, but it is a pretty mild thing to be addicted to. I don't know if people wind up abusing these drugs typically. Does anyone know about this?
I would be cautious about going up to 40 mg Lex because it sounds like it is already making you really tired at 30 mg. I have been on 20 mg Lex and recently added Wellbutrin XL, which has helped, though it might make you more anxious. It might be worth considering though.
All the best,

The tiredness should at least partially get better with time. I take 30 mg Lexapro. I added Wellbutrin (150 mg SR twice a day) last week for ADD symptoms.
Even before Wellbutrin, I was not that tired. But the Wellbutrin does give me more energy. So it's an option to keep in mind.
Wellbutrin often causes jitteriness. But my doc thought that it wouldn't be too bad along with 30mg Lexapro. He was right. It does not make me too jittery.
Another thing that has always given me quick energy is caffeine.

I'm not real familiar with Wellbutrin. Can you give me some information for it? I have ADHD but stopped taking Ritalin because it made my anxiety even worse. What kind of med. is Wellbutrin. What does it do?? Any informatin would be great before I talk to my doctor. Thanks

Wellbutrin is primarily an antidepressant, but is also an ADD drug. Whereas Ritalin can be taken on an "as needed" basis, Wellbutrin has to be taken every day. Wellbutrin can be taken alone. But it is also frequently taken in combination with another antidepressant.
