why Trileptal in the evening ?

Posted by Francesco on December 13, 2003, at 8:10:56

I have been prescribred a very low dose of Trileptal (150mg which I have to tirate to 300mg) that I'm supposed to take at 9 pm. The problem is that it *activates* after taking it and I can't manage to fall asleep until 4-5 am (sometimes with the help of a Xanax). My psychiatrist have told me before I started that this could happen. I wrote him an e-mail to tell him this problem but he has yet not returned it. Does anybody see something wrong in taking my Trileptal dose it in the morning (exploiting also the activating effects, since I have ADHD too) ?
Moreover, does anybody know why Trileptal is usually given in the evening ?

Every comment is very appreciated. Thanks !

I'd say go for it; sometimes it's prescribed twice a day. If it's prescribed once a day for you, as long as you take it once in the day, it won't make much difference at night or in the morning. Night is recommended because it is often sedating--but this is not the case for you, so trust your instincts....
