Need a little experience here. I have been on effexor for 3 weeks, adivan also. I almost feel worse. Panic attacks all the time, and yesterday I felt so depressed, I didn't leave the house or better yet, stayed in my jammies all day. Does this stuff really work, I feel like I'm going backwards.

Effexor works well for some people, and for others it can be a bad choice of drug.
I took it for two weeks, and could not tolerate it. Celexa gave me releif much sooner.
I would consider asking the doctor for a different drug. If you feel no better after 3 weeks it may worth considering another drug.

I cant remember how long it took for effexor to work for me, but I do know it was longer than 3 weeks....all in all I didnt find it super effectve in combatting depression = it definitely helped iwth anxiety.
As for the celexa thing - I have heard good things about that drug - what is it like? DO you find its good for depression AND anxiety because I definitely have problems with both. Any hwlp qwould be greatly appreciated!!!

I was on Celexa twice, and I really liked how I felt on it mentally, but it was really hard on my stomach. My stomach bascially would stop working, I had to take pills to eat(motilium).
I am now on Effexor, have been on it for about 11 days, and it is much easier on my stomach. I am not sure how I feel about Effexor yet, to early to tell. The weird thing about Effexor is I get a little anxious just before I take my next dose, it is like my body is craving it, then when I take it I am okay again. Very strange.

I've been on Effexor for 5 weeks. hasn't done much yet, But what it has done so far it's accomplished without landing me in the hospital. (don't get along with psychotropic drugs too well) As for anxiety, it got much worse for a while when I started it. For now, it's basically made a lateral shift. I can sail through some things that used to petrify me, things which were neutral scare me now.
Anyway, off my soapbox. If you don't think it's working after a couple more weeks, changing meds or augmenting with a neuroleptic would be a good idea.
