Wellbutrin and itching

Posted by shadows721 on November 30, 2003, at 19:28:37

All of a sudden last night, I started feeling like itching sensation all over my body and head. I don't have any redness, just itching sensations It's weird. I've been on the med for about 3 weeks now. Going to try some benadry to see if that helps. Has anyone had this reaction?

shadows721,

Here is one link about Wellbutrin (bupropion) from the top of PB's main page: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/psycho-babble-tips/links/Wellbutrin_SR_000963633280/

If you type "rash" and "wellbutrin" (yes the words need to be in quotation marks) into the Google search box at the bottom of the main page or the left frame depending on which one you are using, you will come up with about 250 posts that mention Wellbutrin and rashes.

I'm not sure which version of Bupropion you're taking. Many posters reported allergic reactions to the dye in the coating from what I can recall from over the years.

Good luck and I hope you're able to find what you need. One other search is "wellbutrin" and "coating" and that will bring up all sorts of infomation regarding the composition of Bupropion tablets. I think one poster was even in touch with a lab scientist at the pharm. company where Wellbutrin was made and got the answer to whether or not the SR version tablets could safely be split. The archives have tons of information about this medication.

If you are taking 150 SR it's the purple dye causing it.

I am on wellbutrin xl 150 mg 1X/day. It's a white pill. Called MD today. He said it is an allergic reaction to wellbutrin. He said to stop it and take benadryl.
