Risperdal/Effexor - permanent side effects?

Posted by Cyath on November 26, 2003, at 11:07:00

Hi, I was wondering whether people here could help me with some information...I've been on acombination of Risperdal/Effexor for about a week now, and I've noticed a severe drop in my sex drive as well as an inability to ejaculate...I hear lots of horror stories on the Net about these two medications, especially Effexor, so I'm kind of concerned as to just what's happening. I'm taking a low dosage of both (1.5 Risperdal, 37.5 Effexor per day) but I would like to know about any side effects that may result from either of them, especially if there is any chance they might be permanent.

Strangely enough I think the problem might be because of the Risperdal and not the Effexor, since I only went on that recently and the decreased libido was when I was taking the Risperdal - but the effect has since gotten worse. Will it go away if I simply stop taking either medication? I trust my doctor but more information is always helpful.

First of all, you have only been on the combo for a week. Side effects often decreases with time. Both effexor and risperdal may cause sexual dysfucntion, especially effexor. You might want to wait a few weeks to see how it develops. And don't worry, the sexual SE will go away when you have gone off the meds.

Ok, thanks a lot for the info. ^_^ I've been on the Risperdal for about a month and a half before but yeah, you're right, I've only been on a combo for a week. Hopefully it will improve. Thanks for posting!
