I'm just curious about this, since I seem go in cycles where I feel quite good, for some reason or another, for like a week, then eventually there's periods where I feel really really bad for 4 days or so. In between, there's more periods of stability. Yet, I still have periods throughout every day where I feel a little moody or tired on good days and I still feel good for a little on days when I have bad days. But yet, overall, I go through periods of good times, and periods of bad times. I suspect this is normal (aka not bipolar), since the fluctuations aren't huge as a whole, but I keep it in the back of my head just as something to ponder. To me, it's more just symptoms of ADD / depressive symptoms, but how would one differentiate between that and like rapid cycling bipolar II? Is it just the response to mood stabilizers vs. stimulants? I've read that some people get mistakenly diagnosed for one then realise they are actually the other.

That's a really good question and I think the two could be easily mistaken for each other. Perhaps the key lies in assessing the sypmtoms over the long term? Also, the reaction to anticonvulsants vs. stimulants is good...a stimulant in someone without ADD might rev them up?

Hmmm... I've been wondering along similar lines - how does the difference between "rapid cycling" and "mixed states" affect what you have... sorry I'm not very coherent today - I'm sure you get what I mean...

My original DX was Major Depression W/ Multiple Episodes. 3 months ago I got the DX for ADHD. Last week Bipolar. I believe in my body, mind, & soul that I have a bipolar disorder. Manty symptoms of It runs throughout my extended family (Today, is Thanksgiving and an Aunt and I discussed mood swings in my family.). As far as meds go...... I feel really good right now. My Pdoc put me on 400 mgs Wellbutrin and I started Triliptal last week. Although Wellbutrin is not a stimulant, it helps w/ the updake of Dopamine. The anti-sesurie Triliptal seems to work for me. Stimulants really stimulate me. I have a potential to abuse them so I dont take them. I have Xanex I take as needed .5mgs. Sometimes I need it.
