For those of you on Lexapro who have difficulty sleeping, my doctor prescribed Trazadone and it worked! I am on 5mg, which I take in the morning and today is day 20. Since starting Lexapro, I have been taking Ambien without success (can fall asleep, but cannot stay asleep). However, despite the fact that I slept like a rock last night, I feel very groggy this morning. As with everything in life, there are postive and negative aspects. Jill

I too experienced some trouble sleeping when starting Lex. I have been an insomniac most of my adult life, never slept through to nite, some times would lie awake or doze fitfully for nite after nite. I was frequently ENRAGED that my husband's head would hit the pillow and he was asleep, and that alone would keep me awake.
Started Lex in Feb., currently @20mg. And best of all....insomnia is GONE!!! Now I fall asleep within half an hour, sleep soundly THROUGH the nite, and do not wake untill alarm goes off. Now my husband complains about how heavily I sleep, instead of the other way around! I HAVE to conclude it is the Lexapro, as I have done nothing else different, have not changed habits, diet, or anything else.
I can only hope this side effect does not go away, and that others may experience it as well.~~~8|8

i was on trazadone for years---great stuff, no addiction, and a good anti-d. smart dr. on that one. never made me rapid-cycle and no withdrawal. it's been a while, but i intend to try it again.

Wow, the trazadone knocked me out for 12 hours and I was a basket case the whole next day. Kept losing my balance and running into doorways. Maybe I'll try to cut the pill into quarters next time but I'm honestly scared to take it again. Does anybody know of something less "drugging" I could try? The klonopin doesn't help me sleep.

sounds like too much. klonopin is a benzo---it's gonna make trazadone sleepier in most. trazadone will make you sleepy when taken, so will imipramine, or elavil---but you usually wait a few weeks before you see the full anti-d result. you feel better, or not.
This is the end of the thread.
