My doc currently has me on 150 Wellbutrin XL (to affect dopamine and norepinephrine), 300 Effexor XR (to affect seratonin and norepinephrine), and some hytrin which is *supposed* to help with the disgusting night sweats. Anybody who has had these night sweats knows how gross they are. I was waking up three times during the night to reposition myself on a dry spot of sheet. I changed my sheets every day, but it got sooo expensive to do all that laundry! ;) I've cut back on the Effexor (down to 150) and cut out the hytrin altogether and the sweats are almost gone, but my moods are taking a turn for the worst. Does anyone know if other seratonin-affecting meds will cause the same night sweats (i.e. are seratonin and night sweats directly related) or are the night sweats independent of the seratonin effect and more just a side effect of the Effexor in general?
Thanks!

I had night sweats & sleep talking very bizzare waking up talking going back to sleep. on effexorXR. I stopped after 3 months on it. Paxil gave me horrible night sweats. I would lay down a couple of layers of towels and change as needed. sleep nude becauce my jammys would be soaked anyway. With Paxil, The night sweats went away, as well as all the other side effects

How long has this been happening? If it's relatively recent the night seats may go away as do *most* other side effects.
How long have you been on Effexor? I developed some sort of possible "sensitivity" to the drug where I was having all of the awful side effects on a mere 75mg that before, came with 375mg! I'm not sure if this is a very common occurrence (I believe not) but I just thought I'd throw it into the ring...you never know...you may have now become intolerant to the drug too?
Take care,
Karen

I have been on many different antidepressants over the past 10 years. Without a doubt, Effexor was the least tolerable. The side effects were so much worse than the other medicines, I could only take it for a week or so - but while taking it, I did have night sweats as well as sleep paralysis (I think it's called). I found many of the other ADs easier to handle - (like Celexa and Lexapro). Good luck - just know if Effexor does not work for you, there are others to choose from.
