Help - Effexor withdrawal

Posted by rubyslippers222 on November 18, 2003, at 4:07:54

I made it through the first week of hell without effexor after tapering for a month. Last week I had nausea all the time, vomited at least twice a day, couldn't keep anything down, was hot one minute, cold the next, had horrible mood swings, among other flu-like symptoms. My Doctor almost put me in the hospital for the extra support, but I refused. If I was going to be miserable, I was going to try to at least be a little comfortable in my own home.

Anyway......This is week two and though I am much better and can keep small portions of food and liquid down, I am still soooooooo naseaus. Has anyone had this much of a problem with their stomach? Also, on average how long does this withdrawal syndrome last?

Thank you for your replies.

Ruby, check out my message above yesterday regarding Luvox. Gives a detailed description of my XR withdrawal this past fall.

YOU WILL FEEL BETTER. I PROMISE. IT TAKES SOME TIME AND LOTS OF SUFFERING BUT IT GOES AWAY. I was on XR from Dec. 2nd, 2002 til this past September. Took me a month to feel like my "old self," but even after three weeks I started to see improvment. So glad you are tapering, too.
Regards.
JM

Take a tapering vacation at a certain level. Give your body a chance to adjust. Doesn't help with the rebound depression though.

Hi there - my guts were in a horrible state from about 75mg to nothing of efxr (i'm on my eighth day of none now, and am feeling better tho not perfect).
IBS hardly seemed to cover it, as the mucus was making me sick too, like you - Ickily I could actually puke about half a pint of phlegm before I could eat anything. Yeah, as I said, I'm a bit better... though I am ashamed to say that all I can drink much of is evil corporate fizz... and I'm eating lots (relatively speaking) of crisps...
Sugary caffeine drinks seemed to cut through the slimey ick a bit for me... though the fizz might be a problem. Good luck,
S
