Prozac - Long-term use

Posted by sisyphus on November 16, 2003, at 10:25:05

Dear all,

I was on Prozac for few months, and I found that it did work for me. It successfully controlled my anxiety and blushing.

However, when I read some articles talking about the possible side-effects of Porzac, e.g. nervous system permanent damage, I tried to switch to alternatives to treat my anxiety, depression and OCD.

I am now on auto-urine therapy, St. John's wort, homeopathy, bach flower remedies, bee pollen, fatty acid, magnesium... Urine therapy has improved my health a lot and I think it cured my major depression. St. John's wort just casued me dizziness and fatigue. And I can't find any alternative for my OCD and blushing. Now I think I can do nothing but my last resort is returning back to Prozac for my blushing.

Would anyone give me more suggestion on the long-term use of Prozac? Any research on the safety of its long-term use?

Thanks.

Only if you read very biased views.

I have been on prozac on and off some times alternating between prozac and zoloft, but more prozac then zoloft. I am currently prescribed 100mgs of prozac which is 20mgs over the recommended maximum probably because I have been on it for 12 years. Currently, I am supplementing prozac with remeron and more recently lamictal. I have not experienced any noticeable side effect other then a mild headache, initially and maybe weight gain, whenever prozac was increased.
