Motivation/no energy - is Reboxetine good choice?

Posted by btnd on November 1, 2003, at 13:35:55

I'm trying to find the perfect med to augment my Amisulpride regime and boost motivation and energy. I've just read a lot about Reboxetine, seems like a good choice. What do you think? And what are your experiences with it?

Hi Brad.

Amineptine makes the perfect complement to amisulpride. I guess you know that by now.

I had a bad experience with reboxetine. It made me much, much worse. It put me in a state of anxious suicidality. I tried to work up to 8mg. The suicidality was very pronounced and dangerous. Within 36 hours of discontinuing the reboxetine, the emergency resolved completely. Of course, for some people, it is probably a wonder drug. Generally, reboxetine has been unimpressive as an antidepressant. It's manufacturer could not get it approved in the US because the clinical trials yielded poor results.

Yes, I think reboxetine is a reasonable choice if you are looking for something energizing. You won't know until you try.

What about adding Provigil (modafinil)?

Hey Scott, thanks for the answer.
Actually Provigil is out of the league because of the cost. Yes, I'm looking for Amineptine for as long as I've been diagnosed with dysthymia. And I either can't find it or if I find it it is INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE. If you know how to help me out just drop me an email in the left upper corner.

Take care man.
Brad

Wellbutrin would give you the norepinephrine as well as dopamine. If I wasn't allergic to it (sigh) I'd take that over all the rest.

I second what SLS said about his/her experience on reboxetine. This post was spot on in describing my reaction to it.
all the best

How about adding Deprenyl(citrate or Jumex form)? Or how about Bromocriptine? I wouldn't bother with Provigil... I only noticed a slight improvement... and yes it is expensive.
