I'm just curious, what is a brain shock? Is that just when your brain is "deprived" of a drug? Karen

from the little i read, they don't know what causes 'brain shocks'. the first time i heard the term was on this board, but it explains it perfect. it feels kind of like electricity pulsating through your head. or kind of like your heart is beating where your brain is. it's a weird feeling.

I have not gone off of effexor, so I have no idea how off-kilter you are. I have, however, made the decision as to whether or not I was capable of driving due to drug effects several times.

For some time I took xanax. Even on a low dose it completely knocked me out. It was absolutely out of the question for me to drive after taking it

Also, when I was on increased drugs to control a mania last spring I arranged ways not to drive because I was a total space cadet. For god's sake I could barely walk. But walk I did.

Depending on how debilitated you are, it IS possible to get a ticket for "driving while impaired" even though you haven't been drinking (at least according to my dad, who knows someone who got such a ticket because of med effects), so I would suggest erring on the side of caution.

Brain shocks are unpleasant, for sure, but i cant imagine how they would impair your driving ability. Have you had black outs or anything else that makes you concerned about this? Melodie
