i'm probably going to stay in the Netherlands next semester (Jan. to June). i am also on Nardil, and have no desire whatsoever to off any time soon.
Does anyone know whether Nardil is prescribed there or not, and if not, whether it is legal to possess? Yes just about anything is permitted in Amsterdam, but the rest of the country does not compare to that, as far as i'm aware. So does anyone know? How about other prescription drugs, or prescription drugs in general? Are all those that are available and legal here in the States also that way over there, or not necessarily?
Thanks to whoever can help.
(i love Nardil, but man do i wish i could have tap beer. What a shame it will be to turn down all that European brew.)

they have a 'lenient' attitude towards marijuana, harder drugs are just as illegal there as elsewhere (in fact pot isnt legal just tolerated). You will find pharmaceutical drug restrictions are more restrictive than Australia. Im not sure where you are from, if USA then about the same. In other words you cant get any 'fun' drugs over the counter let alone something like a maoi. You shouldnt have any probs seeing a doc & getting a proper prescription.
good luck

Thanks so much. That's a pretty big help. i knew that pot was illegal though generally tolerated, but i didn't know about their dealings with pharmaceuticals. That's disappointing. But at least i should hopefully be able to get a prescription for Nardil and maybe some other things i'd like to try, if you are right.

I'm jealous--would do anything to go back to this wonderful (refreshingly tolerant) country. Besides, I'm of Dutch descent.

You're asking the same questions I was faced with, as a Parnate user, when I relocated to Thailand in '97. I had to contact the manufacturer to get a definitive answer (no, it isn't, unfortunately) and it's evidently legal to possess. But to stay on the safe side, i keep all my prescriptions, MD reports and other documents in case Thai Customs agents ever get off their lazy butts and decide to check (actually, it's good that they haven't done routine suitcase checks, although that's been changing lately). Bottom line is, I can legally have the Parnate as a foreign/legal resident but the doctors and hospitals here can't obtain or prescribe it.

> Thanks to whoever can help.My suggestion is that you go to the Dutch embassy and try to get info about this from them. An English lang. copy of their drug laws would be your best bet.
I'm just curious--what city will you be going to, will you be an exchange student, etc. We might get redirected to psychosocial Babble but that's OK.
