Hi I am new to the boards. I just stopped taking Effexor. I am concerned though cause I have had feelings of rushing feelings in my head and light headedness. I stopped the Effexor because it had me sleeping all day and night and made my tounge crack so bad that it felt like it was on fire and I had to constantly drink water. It was horrible. Anyone know what I can expect as far as withdrawl symptoms, how long they last. I heard they can be extreme. appreciate any reply. thanks

Did you quit cold turkey or have you been tapering? I think you definitely want to taper when coming off SSRI/SNRI's, especially Effexor because it has the shortest half life.
I would taper your dose down for a couple of weeks before completely just stopping it. What you are experiencing is a common side effect coming off of Effexor.

What was you usual dosage and how long had you taken Effexor? I was up to 300mg daily, and had been taking the Effexor since May 2003. I'm currently in the process of quitting Effexor. I've tapered from 300mg to 225mg this week and have experienced dizziness and naseau plus major headaches and a general feeling of yuckiness.
This weekend I'm going to cut my morning dose from 150 to 75mg while my husband's out deer hunting. That'll bring the total daily dosage to 150mg.
