I want to stop taking serzone

Posted by Gander on October 27, 2003, at 19:10:03

What is the best way to wean myself off serzone. I have been taking it for 5 years (with no ill effects) but want to stop taking it because who knows what long term effects it might have. I take 75 mgs a day along with prozac weekly.

I would guess that the best way is to do it gradually over a period of a couple weeks.

You might want to reconsider however. Some people find that Serzone reverses sexual side effects of Prozac (and possibly other side effects).

There are lots of posts of people who decide to stop a drug, only to regret it later. The biggest concern with Serzone is with liver function. BUT, if it is going to cause liver probelms, it does so early on. If your first 6 months liver tests are ok, it should not hurt you later and you have nothing to worry about.

VERY SLOWLY

I was diagnosed with narcolepsy about a year ago. Anyway, though I have been living with it for about 15 years, I believe that "cold-turkey" cessation of serzone after only about 3 months of use contributed to the onset of the symptom of cataplexy. Though you are not likely to have this happen to you, my point is this, the CNS is fragile, handle it with care.
