Starting Zoloft, what can I expect?

Posted by JimmyBean on October 23, 2003, at 4:00:36

Hi everyone ;)

Well, I'm currently taking amisulpride and before that I took zyprexa and moclobemide. I put on a heap of weight with zyprexa and it also made me depressed :( So I went on amisulpride about a year ago. It has been ok, however the weight is coming off very slowly. I've also got a bit of depression and I've just started Zoloft today. I've heard it can cause a bit of weight loss. Who have lost weight on zoloft? And is it a good antidepressant? Has anyone here tried amisulpride and zoloft together and what was it's effect?

Thank you very much :)
All the best.

My son's problem is schizophrenia. He takes 20 mg of Zyprexa at 7:00 pm. At between 9-10 AM he is taking 75 mg Zoloft. It takes at least a week or two or more to notice the effects. It works well for him, but if you tend toward acne/skin problems monitor that carefully it can cause or worsen acne from what we have experienced. I have read many good posts on this forum regarding Zoloft. It does lessen sex drive, I think that is the most heard complaint. My son was almost too euphoric on 100 mg so he was cut back to 75 mg. I have also read from others that that is the best dosage. Many complain that 50 mg is not enough. My son's Dr told me last week he can prescribe 25 mg so he can take one 50 mg and one 25 mg per day. Good Luck.

Maybe a bit. Certainly didn't increase appetite.

And is it a good antidepressant?

In my opinion in it very weak. This comes from experience and reading.

ace, Amisulpride makes me quite restless at times and it sometimes makes me tired. I take it at night and I've had vivid dreams and a bit of trouble sleeping. It's ok but I don't think it's a wonder drug.
Do you think MAOI's are better AD's than SSRI's?

thanx.

i've been taking zoloft for about 3 weeks now. i feel amazing, and there is a noticable difference in me says my family. but i will also agree that my sex drive is well, almost gone. i take 50mgs during the day. i take 50mgs of seroquel at night. i had nightmares on trazadone.my sleep is much more peaceful, 30 minutes and i'm out! good luck on your search, it takes a long time to find the right meds, it took me 3 years.

In every aspect they are FAR superior. The only thing is they tend to have more short-term s/effects. But, i believe, they are THE most potent anti-depressives out there. NEVER EVER have I seen so many wonderful responses to MAOIs. And they work for so many things. That being said, some people do have success with the SSRIs too.

Good luck whatever happens!

Im on 200mg Zoloft and been on the med for about 2 years. Its a very good AD, and for me no SE.

Became hypomanic att 150 mg last year tough, but it eventually did lessen.

Thanks everyone :)

Mats, do you take any other meds?
It's my 4th day on zoloft and I feel like my libido has gone down. I'm also experiencing yawning but I'm not tired. But I do feel a bit less depressed ;) I'm taking 50mg and will increase that to 100mg.
