Hello, im new to this forum but have suffered from mild depression and obsessive social problems since my late teens. Im in my mid-20s.
Recent events/feelings have lead me to talk to a psychologist and increase my doses. I have visited with him twice. Im struggling with mild depression again which was sort of under control via my existing medication.
My general physician put me on the lexipro to help with my obsessions and my shrink concurs. My depression is/was focused on dissatisfaction with my social life (friends/lack of romance). I have recently become obsessed with a female friend and my behavior is barely under control. Im afraid to hurt my feelings and/or others any worse but am consumed with frustration regarding this situation.
Ive gone from 100 mg of zoloft for two years to Lexipro 10 mg (overlapped with zoloft for 4 days) and continued 10 mg for the remaining month. Im now on 20 milligrams for the past 4 days.
My question is when people think this medication will start to work?
Is it possible that my lows this week are from withdrawal from the zoloft?
Thirdly, is this obsession part of OCD?
And lastly, I would love support and encouragement.

Literature states Lexapro may take 6-8 weeks to be effective, for me it was 9 weeks.> Is it possible that my lows this week are from withdrawal from the zoloft?

This is very possible as there will usually be side effects from discontinuing a med.> Thirdly, is this obsession part of OCD?

Sorry, I don't have an answer on this one, but feel again that it may be possible.> And lastly, I would love support and encouragement.
You have come to the right place, people on this board are the GREATEST! They helped me through the awful initial side effects I felt, and my depressions, and fears that Lex would never work for me. Lex has given me a decent life again, I can function as a normal person most of the time, and on those other occasions, it has helped me get through the rough spots.
Please don't get discouraged and give the Lex a chance to work, you may get good results too!
Best of luck to you!~~~8|8

I mispelled Lexapro and now will likely need a new name to post under:-)
Mariposa and others,
I dont feel the normal zoloft withdrawal symptoms as i would have if i missed a few days of doses.
Also, Do you think that it will take 9 weeks to feel better even though Ive taken SSRI's for so long?
I have no other symptoms of OCD that im aware of and I haven't been diagnosed yet. This obsessive behavior regarding relationships scares me more because it scares away people and could get me in trouble if it were to effect my behavior. I believe I have the problem under control though.

That's how long it took for me, but I have read many posts where people say they feel effects during the first or second week. We are all different, and sorry to say I think the only way to know is to try.Hang in there!~~~8|8
