Comments greatly appreciated, but please remember that here we are given only the barest bones of the case history.
We are not told how long the poor unfortunate was in the tapering off phase.nor what was his/her maximum dosage in the past.Nor are we given any background information as to lifestyle, possible polydrug abuse,family-genetic predisposition, ect.Reports of any similar cases would be more than welcome, including as much background detail as possible please.

The patient was then put back on alprazolam, in order to do a dose taper, but seizures recurred. It is arguable that the primary injury occurred during the abrupt cessation episode. It would be difficult, in not completely inappropriate, to draw more general conclusions from this case report. Severe symptoms associated with benzodiazepine withdrawal are known to occur. Abrupt discontinuation is not recommended.

Don't just look at the case report involving Xanax. Scan down the entire compendium of case reports and you might conclude, as I did--that this is surely one of the most unscienific and benzophobic analyses around. We're given no info whatever on whether the patients' reactions were the result of cold turkey withdrawal or not, and I suspect that they probably were; i.e. all of these patients probably stopped their meds abruptly, but we're not told that. The person(s) who put together the list is doing a disservice to the many people who have benefitted greatly from these drugs as well as those who have successfully discontinued them.
This is the end of the thread.
