back on lexapro, starting armour thyroid

Posted by platinumbride on October 15, 2003, at 18:56:48

I called my shrink today. Told the tales of woe in a neurontin haze (not hazy enough, though, even though I took over 10 pills of 600 mgs to make my husband worry ....he just doesn't have a clue sometimes, bless his heart)

So now it is to go back on the stupis ssri and add thyroid. Anyone also doing this thyroid thing? Am I going to become a nervous nellie like my mother is?

Thanks,
Diane

Hey Diane,

I hope you feel better. You are taking thyroid medication? Were you diagnosed with a thyroid problem?

Gianpiero

Hello GianPiero,

The hypothyrpoidism is questionable...sometimes it's normal, sometimes not, but thyroid meds are still a way to treat depression, I am told.

Since I have already exhausted so many options, this is the next one on the list......

Ciao!

Diane

Buon Giorno Diane
I used to suspect that I had some problems with hypothyroidism. Apparently, the medical tests that I had performed ruled that out. Now, is it your general practicioner that prescribed these thyroid meds?

I too have found myself between a rock and a hard place. I'm so tired all of the time and I guess this comes from my depression. I'm in my early 20s, unemployed, have my bachelors degree, and I just can't seem to have the confidence or motivation to go out there and seek a job. I have even cut out drinking coffee and quit my illicit vices. My father has lost hope with me and he just doesn't understand why things are so difficult with me. He doesn't understand why I feel this way.

I really think the thyroid meds might help you. Good luck to you. I know you can get better.

Gianpiero

I dont have hypothyroid on the test but my doc suspected cytomel would work and it really has helped me with energy. I love it. I take around 25mcg in halves 2x day. It really works.
I am still trying to fiind out if I should be worried about long term thyroid dysfunction from taking it, though

Caro mio Gianni...

Well, the deal is kinda this....

I don't have a GP who could do all of these machinations with meds the way a psychiatrist can. If you are just getting help from a GP, put your father on the phone with me lol.......

My gp told me once that if you are taking more than one or 2 psychotropic drugs, you should be monitored by a psychiatrist.

Have you been to one?

As I said my thyroid is like sometimes normal, sometimes low.....anyway, they sometimes use this to treat depressed patients, of which i am fitting the bill rather well of late.

Of course, the fact taht you are in your 20s, have a BA and are in a lousy economy couldn't POSSIBLY have anything to have to do wiht your depression, now could it????????

Taken any drugs for this yet?

Diane

YIKES!!!!

I am assuming that cytomel is like armour....
I guess if we mess up our thyroids we can have them removed......
My half sister has Grave's Disease and she had to do it.
Not that it is a joke, but who wants to live on earth held back by what ifs and not wanting to leave the house?

NO No No its not that bad!!!
Its just that thyroid supplements can cause your own thyroid to stop working temporarily and if you take it long enough some say that this is permanent, but I read conflicting reports on that, some saying that the thyroid eventually goes back to normal.
Worst case you just keep taking the cytomel

Neither. Good hearty energy feeling, more like a normal person, I think.
Im not tired during the day, so I dont want to take naps, and I'm not as spaced out as I was before.
If I take too much I feel hyper, sweat a lot, and feel jittery. You can feel it out with the dose, IMO.
