Help - Nardil and brief narcolepsy

Posted by don_bristol on October 1, 2003, at 13:06:07

Am on Nardil 60mg. Have built up to it over weeks.

Sometimes I feel dizzy for a brief moment sometimes during the day. But it isn't my blood pressure being too low because Nardil has definitely raised it on average.

I am asking here about the sleepiness I feel in the early evening. Wow. It is really strong. I might sit at the PC doing something interesting and then I might nod off for a second.. I have never had this before. It might repeat itself several times even though I try hard to fight it.

Does anyone recognise what is happening to me?

I have heard Nardil is often sedating. But in my case what I get is poor quality sleep at night as if Nardil was slightly stimulating and not sedating.

I would welcome any comments on any of this as it is very puzzling to me and I am not sure if I should try and ride these side effects out or not.

This happend to me a few times in the beginning weeks of Nardil therapy...I believe it is R.E.M. rebound, and it will pass....I called them "sleep attacks" my P-Doc and neurologist both said it was most likely REM rebound...anyway, after the first couple of weeks, most, if not all, the side-effects went away.

Thanks for the reply. Apart from this strange sleepines I seem to be getting few benefits from Nardil. If you recall, I am on 60mg and have been on that dose for a wekk after building up for the previous 3 weeks.

Should I have had a response? Did you find you got a response after the side effects had died down?

I would be interested to know anyone's experiences with getting an improvement with Nardil.

When I started Nardil I took 2 weeks to build up to 60mg. Then, it took about 4 weeks of being on 60mg for it to really kick in. It kicked in great. After about 6 weeks on 60mg, it started to poop out, so I went to 75mg. It took about 3 weeks for it to help at 75mg, and that's been good for the last month. There are people on this website that expect results after a week on this drug - I find that highly unrealistic. Be patient.

As far as the narco symptoms - I originally was on provigil, but that didn't help that much. Now I take ginseng, which helps. I also went back to coffee even though it's on the "FORBIDDEN DIET." It's been fine - I have 3-4 cups a day. Also, exercise will help. I still do get the narco symptoms once in a while but much less. Now all I need is something to help with my poor attention span and concentration and I'm all set. Oh, I do experience anorgasmia from time to time and that is no fun at all......the ginseng seems to help somewhat for that, too.
