Is Effexor XR worth the withdrawal effects?

Posted by cubic_me on September 29, 2003, at 7:09:39

I've just been to the psychatrist and she's changed me from Effexor to Effexor XR because I'm getting withdrawal effects whenever I'm coming up to the next dose (yay, finally someone who recognises that withdrawal effects!).

Is it worth going on Eff XR if its going to be so hard to get off? Is it harder to get off a higher dose than a lower dose?

Any opinions would be helpful cos I'm abit stuck with what to do, and although the headshocks/diziness/nausea etc makes me practically unable to function I'll almost try anything to get me better.

I think that there is no doubt that you should try the XR version. I have read a lot of posts about Effexor withdrawal. It seems that if it is done the right way, there should be no big problems. The right way is to do it gradually, and to give Prozac (or maybe another SSRI) during the withdrawal period.

I'm coming off of XR, and tho' I have some withdrawal, it's really not as bad as some of these guys evidently have it. The long term effects will probably be the same for the two types of Effexor, and the short term ones "gentler" for XR - correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.
When I change my dose, I feel 'dodgy' for a week or so. I'm at 75 down from 225 just now.
