Hi,
I've tried Lamictal three times and had to stop due to rash. One time I got up to 100mgs and felt the best from any med.
Any experience with re-retrying Lamictal after an intitial rash and then success? Thanks,
charly

Hi,
Anyone had success with re-trying Lamictal due to rash and now doing well?
I've had 3 trials of Lamictal and each time I had to stop due to rash. One time I got up to 100mgs and felt great, but then the rash appeared I had to stop.
Appreciate any feedback.
Thanks,
charly

I have heard of someone on this board who quit due to it, then restarted and got the rash again, but continued on thru' it (under doc's supervision and advice) and the minor rash went away. It wasn't the deadly one. She said she was still on it.
When does your rash appear? At the start of the dosing or in the middle?
How quickly do you titrate up?

She's probably talking about me. In brief, started Lamictal, got small harmless short-lived rash (little pink area about 2 inches). Saw dermatologist. Stopped drug.
Tried other stuff that didn't work.
Went back on Lamictal with a slower titration (5 to 7.5 mg/week) and got the little pink area a couple more times and one flushing reaction on my upper chest. All of these disappeared within 24 hours or sooner. Because they were so quick to go away and I had supervision, we continued with the drug despite the rashes. Now I'm at 275 mg, no more rashes, and can safely increase by 25 mg.
'Course after all that hard work, I feel so horribly depressed it's alarming....still working on the right augmentation. (yes, it did help a lot at first and my doc says many of her patients maintain good effectiveness on this drug).

Hi,
I started with 25mgs every other day for 2 weeks, then once I get to 25 every day I see small red spots on my leg. My doc said to stop immediately due to concern about the rash becoming the life threatening type. I appreciate the encouraging information and will start back up again and titrate slower.
Thanks very much!!

I'd make sure you do so with careful supervision from a dermatologist as well as your pdoc. How long did your red spots last? My pdoc actually consulted with someone who was an expert on lamictal and spoke with the dermatologist I saw before we went for retrying it. They say there's no way to know for sure which rashes might turn nasty. But there is precedence in the literature for successful retrial of Lamictal after resolution of a minor rash.
If you and your doctor decide to try again and opt for the slower titration, they make 5 mg tabs that can even be broken in two.
Good luck.

You say a few red dots? How many? i'm looking on my skin and see a few red dots here and there on my legs, but it's so few and sporadic that it could be anything. When should I be worried?
I hate this.
I have heard that even if you stop the medication, if it's Steven's rash (deadly one) it doesn't matter. So why bother stopping it? Why not wait to see if just stops on it's own? And if it is the deadly one, is there anything that can be done? how awful this is.
I feel so stupid now. My pdoc said not to try any new lotions and such and I'm house/pet sitting and there's all these new lotions/shampoos here that I'm using. I totally forgot.
Only by looking closely can I even see little red dots. ummmmm.
this is exhausting!
