Nardil VS. Klonopin

Posted by rianny on September 15, 2003, at 18:30:33

I got Nardil prescription from my pdoc. (I'm suffering from OCD and SP)
He recommeneded me to take .5 mg each in the morning and at bedtime. (I was on Paxil and Celexa before...now tappered off completely, but some Celexa withdrawal effects still remain though they started to disappear)

I have taken .25mg only in the mornings of Sep. 11 and 12 to see how I react. I was pretty calm but was kind of too fatigued and tired...it might be because of Celexa withdrawal effects.

I took .5mg this morning, and my feeling was "decent"...actually a little close to "great".
It's probably because of higher dosage of Klonopin and lessened Celexa withdrawal effects.

My questions are:

1. Should I take this med regularly, like .5mg in the morning and .5mg at bedtime, as the pdoc said, to get full effect?

2. If I take regularly, what are the chances that my body in future requires higher dosages to be calm enough?

After a week, I will start taking Nardil.

Here are some more questions:

3. How will Nardil be different from Klonopin? Will Nardil make me calm as Klonopin did to me? Or does it feel different?

4. Do you recommend me taking Klonopin regularly (.5mg in the morning and .5mg at bedtime) until I try Nardil?

I'm just worried about taking Klonopin because I read that it could make me addictive to this drug, and that my brain will require higher dosage of it as the brain gets used to the drug. So, I won't respond well enough to this drug when I really need it (ex. performance or presentation).

Any comment is welcome, as usual =)

Yes, take it regularly..the side-effects will dissappear, buy the antianxiety effects will remain

It depends on the person, the dose you take now may be enough to alleviate your symptoms...however, many people need up to 4 or 6mg to alleviate their symptoms...and are on this dose for years...You may find the need to increase, but will most likely find a plateau dose.

I have taken both Klonopin and Nardil. I have found that there is a certain difference between the two medications...the antianxiety effects from Nardil (for me) seemed stronger than the antianxiety effects from Klonopin (probably because of the added serotonin aspect of Nardil)... because my problem was social anxiety, and major depression..

I recommend that you follow what your you psychiatrist says.

For performance/presentation anxiety, Beta-blockers (propranolol) are the best...You can add this med to both Nardil and Klonopin...however, propranolol keeps Klonopin in your system longer, and if combined with Nardil, it can exacerbate the initial hypotension you may experience when you first start taking Nardil...ask you psyciatrist what s/he thinks. I had no problems with the Nardil/Inderal combo.
