i just wanna say that it bothers me how Nardil and Parnate (and other MAOIs maybe) are lumped together so often, and discussed like they have the same effects and same properties-- not so much by "patients" or whatever like us but by researchers and writers on the subject and stuff. Parnate and Nardil are exTREMely different drugs. They may both irreversibly inhibit both MAO enzymes, but in addition to Nardil's GABA-elevating properties, they do for some reason produce quite different effects-- maybe it's just Parnate's amphetamine-like qualities that make the difference, i don't know. i'm curious. But i personally find Nardil to be considerably more serotonergic than Parnate-- and i could go into a long shpiel about why i believe this but i won't. Anyway, my point is i think it would be much better if we didn't discuss the pros and cons of MAOIs as a group, but as seperate drugs with significantly different effects. The SSRIs are much more similar to each other, in my opinion, than Parnate and Nardil are to each other.

Have you tried both Nardil and Parnate? If so, which do *you* think would be better for severe depression that saps you of energy, causes sleep disruption and depletion, destroys appetite and desire for sex, and causes anhedonia, while at the same time is accompanied by agitation/anxiety? I'm curious about yours and others opinions since these have always been my major depression/anxiety symptoms and I've had great success with Parnate. So, I've never had reason to want to experiment with Nardil, and figured that it would be similar anyway.

i think Parnate would generally be a better choice for the lack of energy, anhedonia, and low libido while Nardil would generally be better for sleep problems, poor appetite, and agitation and anxiety. This has been true with me and i think is with most people. i was on Parnate for about 2 months and Nardil for about a few weeks. So far Nardil has definitely been more effective than anything else i've tried.
If Parnate is good for your appetite and for anxiety, which i think i remember you saying before, then i think that it would probably be as good as anything. It sounds like it really treats you well. But i dunno maybe Nardil would be even better for you. Not sure. Stay well.

I guess I've been enormously lucky since the Parnate has always alleviated all of my depression symptoms.
