Ultram slow-release for social phobia depression

Posted by btnd on September 5, 2003, at 22:17:08

Hello there,
I've convinced my pdoc to change my prescription on Ultram to "Tramadol Retard" (sustained-release version) because I thought that it could provide benefits for the whole day. And it does :-) I've been using it for only few days, but every time I take 100 mg I get slow but steady increase in my mood, OCD becomes non-existent and social phobia very decreased. And it lasts up to 10-12 hours. Wonderful, but IMO still underrated medication. The time will show it has a tremendous potential in psychopharmacology.

Interesting... have you tried Klonopin? I'm on it 1mg 3x/day, but I'd like something that I don't have to dose 3x/day (especially since forgetting or not bothering to dose can leave you in a situation where you feel like a loser in front of a girl)

Is it as effacious as klonopin for social anx.?

Yes I find Klonopin 2 mg *extremely* helpful in social situations, but only for 2 days of its usage. It might be because the slight Klonopin "sedation" wears off on the 3rd day. I need this particular "sedation" in order not to be anxious around people and be sociable. So I use Klonopin from time to time.
Hmm just a thought popped into my head now, I've never tried it but maybe on that 3rd day I should jump the dosage? To 2.5 mg or 3mg? What do you think?

Hmm comparing Ultram to Klonopin... Its hard to say. Its been my 4th day on Ultram SR, 100mg and it definitely has more pronounced effect on my atypical depression, it heals my OCD completely, and I'd say it's more pro-sociable than Klonopin, I am talkative, outgoing, but not so loose and anxiety-free like on Klonopin. So both Klonopin and Ultram have advantages/disadvantages in my case. I've heard of mixing both with good results. I'll post when anything comes up :)

Take care,
Brad

\When I took Klonopin prn, it was .5mg as needed.

I later needed to up it to 1mg, 3x/day when I went full-time. So yeah, you need to up the dose. And the sedating effect going away is a good thing, you want that, but you also want a dose high enough that works.

Adding Ultram, I can't help you there, never came across anything on it. Doubt my doc even knows about it, and he knows things as obscure as I do... but maybe combining the Ultram and Klono will help you need a lower dose of each.

I'm always open for ideas on loweing my K dose. I've noticed I need less/it's more effective now that I take Xyrem. I can even go to girls I like, talk with them, without taking any Klonopin that day, and I'm very social and not anxious. And I only take Xyrem at night like I'm suppose to.

I don't know how long you've been on Kolonopin. I was on it for 6 years ( 1 mg an night)..and not for anxiety, for back pain. Just an FYI...if you ever go off of it completely..be aware that is is terribly addicting and has horrible withdrawal. Mine lasted for 2 weeks and it was the worst 2 weeks of my life..and I'm going thru the lovely withdrawals of effexor now and as bad as this is, the kolonpoin was way worse.
